Vela is a cross-platform desktop IDE for novelists and web-fiction authors who want more structure than a chat box. It combines outlining, chapter drafting, rewriting, and automated review with a local RAG knowledge base that can retrieve characters, settings, and prior context during long projects. Writers can bring keys for providers such as OpenAI, Claude, Gemini, or DeepSeek, or connect local models through Ollama and similar runtimes. Project data and retrieval stay on the user's machine, making it suited to privacy-conscious, continuity-heavy fiction work.
